What it adds: A better cartridge than the one fitted at the factory, with a nude elliptical stylus that sits deeper in the groove.
Why it fits: This is the next cartridge up from the AT-VM95E the AT-LP120XUSB is sold with, on the same half inch mount and the same two screws, so it is a straight swap on that headshell.
Fitting this retires the AT-VM95E body, though any VM95 stylus still fits the new one.

What it adds: A 600 g weight for the spindle that holds a slightly warped record down on the platter and damps the ring out of it.
Why it fits: Audio-Technica warns this weight off its entry level decks and names them, and the AT-LP120XUSB is not among them: its high torque direct drive and cast aluminium platter carry the extra 600 g.
Turntable Lab sells a pair for $99.95, though one deck only needs one.
